Aoos canyon

Especially impressing is also the canyon in which Aoos River flows. Aoos canyon is surrounded by the scarps of Timfi and Trapezitsa. Its depth is about 1,500 meters, its length about 8 kilometers, while its width varies from 300 to 2,500 meters. The canyon opens itself between vertical sides but there are spots were someone can enjoy a cool bath. The magnificent ecosystem of the river gives shelter to many species of animals and birds (for example wolf, wild pig, roe deer, otter, booted eagle, woodpecker). For someone to approach the canyon, he must follow the marked path from the historical single-arc bridge of Aoos at Konitsa, a miracle of architecture of builders from Pirsogianni (1870). Near the beautiful Gravos waterfall, the Holy Monastery of Stomio (1774) is placed. Beyond its historical importance, it offers impressive view to the canyon. Aoos canyon is on of the most popular destination for nature activities such as canoeing and rafting.
